The Hackensack Environmental Justice Alliance (EJA), a community group that focuses on helping people hit the hardest by environmental issues, seeks the public’s input with the completion of a survey about their experiences with flooding and their knowledge of green infrastructure. The short survey is anonymous and participation is voluntary. Furthermore, participants’ responses are confidential. The survey may be completed online by August 30 in English or in Spanish.
Flooding Survey
The survey’s results will help the EJA to develop a plan to reduce flooding and to use green infrastructure. The results will also assist the EJA and the NNJCF in their efforts to seek and obtain federal funding to address flooding and other environmental issues in the area. For further information about the survey, contact Leonardo Vazquez, AICP/PP, Executive Director of the NNJCF, at leo@nnjcf.org or call 201-568-5608 extension 2.
The EJA also offers participants the opportunity to meet and connect with others interested in making the City of Hackensack greener, cleaner, and healthier for everyone. The Hackensack Environmental Justice Alliance and the Northern New Jersey Community Foundation (NNJCF) co-produce the EJA.
Green Infrastructure for Environmental Justice
The survey is also part of the NNJCF’s Green Infrastructure for Environmental Justice project. Furthermore, this project seeks to reduce flooding and improve environmental conditions for residents in Hackensack. More information about this project may be found online.
The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation produces the project in partnership with Greater Bergen Community Action, the City of Hackensack and Hackensack Public Schools. In addition, other community-based organizations and residents in Hackensack contribute. The Funders Network, AARP, Valley Bank Foundation, and M&T Bank Foundation support the project. Additional contributors include PSEG Foundation, The Rotary Club of Hackensack, TD Charitable Foundation, and other supporters.
