Environmental Justice Alliance Announces Meeting in September

Are you seeking solutions to flooding in the City of Hackensack? The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation (NNJCF) invites you to attend the next community meeting of the Environmental Justice Alliance (EJA) to discuss solutions on Monday, September 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. The meeting takes place at The Second Reformed Church, located at 436 Union Street in Hackensack, New Jersey 07601, as well as online.

The community-based EJA focuses on helping people hit the hardest by environmental issues. Furthermore, the alliance provides resources for residents and people, who work in the City of Hackensack, to learn about strategies to reduce future flooding in the area and to make neighborhoods greener and healthier.

During the meeting, the EJA plans to provide information about several issues. The agenda covers updates about the green infrastructure plan and an EPA grant application. Other points of discussion include clarification about the EJA’s mission and the next steps to be undertaken. In addition, the EJA intends to introduce the new co-chairs – Amrisa Niranjan and Pedra Del Vechio. Future environmental projects in and around Hackensack will also be discussed. These projects encompass a pet walk on the Hackensack River, the installation of art and maintenance of the rain garden located at Hackensack High School, as well as the public’s ideas for projects. The NNJCF invites anyone living or working in Hackensack to attend and participate.

Green Infrastructure for Environmental Justice

This meeting comprises part of the NNJCF’s Green Infrastructure for Environmental Justice project. The project seeks to reduce flooding and improve environmental conditions for residents in Hackensack.

The Foundation presents the program in partnership with Greater Bergen Community Action, City of Hackensack and Hackensack Public Schools, along with other community-based organizations in Hackensack. Supporters of the project include The Funders Network, AARP, Valley Bank Foundation, and M&T Bank Foundation.  In addition, donors include PSEG Foundation, The Rotary Club of Hackensack, TD Charitable Foundation, and other supporters.

The NNJCF also seeks donations to support the Green Infrastructure for Environmental Justice Project. Donations of any size are welcome.  Furthermore, all donations help to create environmental projects benefiting the community. Make a donation online.
