The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation (NNJCF) invites the community to participate in a new public art project in Bergen County. The project features the installation of art on a heavily trafficked fence pathway between Bogota and Hackensack, New Jersey. Furthermore, area artists, community members and others come together in a two-part workshop series, The Path of Us: A Public Art Fence Weaving, culminating in an all day event to install the completed artwork. The NNJCF’s ArtsBergen initiative presents the workshops as part of its Connect the Dots experiential networking series.
Join the Northern NJ Community Foundation’s ArtsBergen initiative for the Connect the Dots event, “The Path of Us: A Public Art Fence Weaving”.
Under the guidance of professional artist Katherine Daniels, attendees work together to conceive a concept for the project. Furthermore, they create their own weavings to construct a site-specific design to enhance a chain link fence located at the ball fields along West Main Street in Bogota. The first workshop starts on Monday, February 25 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This takes place at Olsen Park Recreation Center, located at 162 Main Street in Bogota, New Jersey.
The second workshop occurs on Thursday, April 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Once again, this fun workshop takes place at Bergen Makerspace in the Bergen County Technical Schools Adult & Continuing Education Building. The address is 190 Hackensack Avenue in Hackensack, New Jersey.
The Bergen Makerspace staff and expert ‘makers’ provide one-on-one instruction on 3D printing. This also offers participants the opportunity to design and produce individual embellishments for the fence weaving. Furthermore, local artists and creatives of all ages may contribute their unique talents to the project and learn a new technology to use in their own work.
Community Comes Together
On Saturday, May 4, workshop participants and the community install the finished large-scale weaving on the fence. All events are free and open to the public. Furthermore, registrants may attend one or both workshops. Good-will donations are welcome to defray the costs of the workshop series and the installation.

Artist Katherine Daniels
Katherine Daniels’ beaded sculptures, weaving, and site-specific installations appear nationally and internationally. Her work exhibits throughout New York City and at the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton, New Jersey. Also, her work “To Weave Dreams” appears at Miniartextil, Le Bellfroi Art Center in Montrouge, France. Among her awards, Daniels received a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in painting and the Clare Weiss Emerging Artist Award for Public Art. In addition, she received two Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Manhattan Creative Communities grants. Also, the Bronx Museum’s Artist in the Marketplace selected her to participate in their program.
‘The Path of Us: A Public Art Fence Weaving’ project is a collaborative effort. Bogota Beautiful brings a commitment to a high level of satisfaction and a great quality of life for the municipality’s residents through beautification and improvement projects and community building events. The Borough of Bogota also joins the community partnership. This program has been made possible in part by a grant administered by the Bergen County Department of Parks, Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs from funds grants by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
