Culinary Arts and Housing Organizations Awarded Grants

The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation’s (NNJCF) Andrea Tilbian Halejian Memorial Fund announces the award of two grants to nonprofits for the culinary arts and housing.  The NNJCF donor advised fund donated $5,000 to Careers Through Culinary Arts Program in New York City and $12,000 to LA Family Housing in North Hollywood, California.

The Fund remembers Wyckoff, New Jersey resident Andrea Tilbian Halejian and contributes to qualified charitable organizations she supported. The grant to Careers Through Culinary Arts supports the LA Redbird BIPOC scholarship. Careers Through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP), a workforce development nonprofit, provides underserved teens with a pathway to success. They accomplish this through culinary, job and life skills activities. Furthermore, they service 20,000 middle-and-high school students in seven regions across the United States. These include New York City, Newark, Philadelphia and Camden, Chicago, and Los Angeles.  In addition, they cover Washington D.C./Maryland/Northern Virginia and Arizona, as well as seven Navajo reservation schools.

The nonprofit organization also uses evidence-based best practices to achieve their goals. Currently, they operate 26 properties of temporary, permanently affordable, and permanent supportive housing across Los Angeles.
