Northern NJ Community Foundation Announces The Class of 1964 Ralph Gregg Memorial Scholarship Recipient

The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation’s charitable fund, The Class of 1964 Ralph Gregg Memorial Scholarship Fund, announces Leonia High School senior Joseph Robinson was named the 2016 recipient. The NNJCF donor advised fund memorializes Leonia High School 1964 classmate Ralph Gregg. Robinson received the award on June 2 at the Leonia High School Senior Awards Ceremony.

The scholarship award of $1,000 is given to a student seeking to further his or her education, who is also a member of an athletic team, holds a B grade point average or better, and demonstrates some financial need. “Most importantly, the recipient must demonstrate the ability to relate to everyone, be a true friend, and be humorous. We take pride in the fact that

the Ralph Gregg scholarship is different because its main focus is not on academics or athletics but on friendship and being a great classmate. More often than not this is the only scholarship that our recipient receives,” explained presenter Doug Bauer.

Among his accomplishments, Robinson, a four-year marketing student, received the Weirenga Award given for best all around male athlete of the Leonia High School class of 2016. His athletic credits include tying the school record for the 100 meter dash, achieving sectional championships in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, receiving most valuable player in football, and being named one of Leonia High School’s track and field most valuable players this year. Robinson received the first team All League in the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference and honorable mention in Bergen County’s All County top athletes. He plans to attend the University of New Haven and major in sports marketing/management, while continuing his interests in athletics to play football.

“Joseph Robinson is a wonderful, accomplished athlete and a very personable young man, who was admired by many for his warm, engaging personality,” said Rowena Gianfredi, marketing teacher at Leonia High School and coordinator of the senior academic awards program.
