Englewood Community Foundation Receives Grant from Time Warner Cable and Partners with the Essie R. Stafford Fund to Conduct Career Development Workshops in Local High Schools
The Englewood Community Foundation (ECF) is one of seven non-profit organizations receiving funds from Time Warner Cable’s annual “Cause Campaign”. The campaign supports children’s educational and developmental programming. Brien Kelley, Vice President, Time Warner Cable, publicly presented Michael Shannon, Chairman of the ECF, with a check for $6,000 at an event held last month at the Lincoln School in Englewood, NJ. With the grant, the ECF is partnering with the Essie R. Stafford Fund Corporation (ERSFC), a nonprofit organization that provides career development workshops to high school and college students.
For nine years ERSFC has been offering students and parents information about college enrollment, career decision-making, and changes in the labor market. The nbso ECF has joined forces with the ERSFC to help it continue its Career Development Program for juniors and seniors in Englewood, Hackensack, and Leonia high schools. The full program consists of four to six sessions led by local professionals from a variety of fields. Students learn about the relationship between labor market trends and future occupations, and are coached in selecting an appropriate career. Initial workshops have already occurred in all three schools. Now, through the Time Warner Cable grant, two additional in-depth sessions in Englewood and Hackensack, and one in Leonia, will be conducted.
The Englewood Community Foundation ECF is an advocate for systemic improvement in all aspects of community life. The Foundation’s work focuses on citizen capacity building, that is, on lifelong education and the involvement of citizens in community development. The foundation convenes citizens to deliberate public issues, then helps them realize their shared vision through philanthropic programs and endowed funds. Corporate and community partnerships, like those with Time Warner Cable and the ERSFC, are essential to the foundation’s goal of
investing in today’s youth to build a stronger community.
